I’ve talked previously about how to boost performance in Borderlands 4, where the main course of action is changing your PC shader cache to 100 GB, but today I’ll go into two things more gameplay-focused. Sorry, no bonus frames and no crash prevention today.
This first one is a setting that has to do with making map traversal better. You no doubt have seen the little line that navigates you to your destination when you hit your ECHO button, but the default setting is bad.
- Go to Options > Go to Gameplay > Go to ECHO Location Path Visibility Duration > Change to Short
What? Short? Doesn’t that make it worse? No, and I made the mistake of thinking that changing it to Long was the correct option. First, I’m not even sure it is that much longer. Second, the cooldown on hitting ECHO again with that setting is interminably long. When you put it on the Short setting you are able to spam that cooldown much more quickly, keeping that path glowing. As for why there is not a setting to leave it on all the time, you’ll have to ask Gearbox about that. Maybe screen clutter so it’s not showing up in combat? I don’t know.
The second setting has to do with my least favorite mechanic in the game, the grappling hook. My main complaint about this is that the little circle shows up a few feet before you can actually grapple the point, resulting in a lot of whiffs. Unfortunately you cannot change that, but you can change something else:
- Go to Options > Go to Accessibility > Go to Gameplay (scroll over to third tab) > Go to Grapple View Tilt > Change to Off
I can’t guarantee this setting is for everyone, but there is a system in place where the camera will automatically be pulled down as you launch yourself up, rather than being able to see where you’re going in any direction you aim. Presumably this is so you can see what you’re about to land on, and if there’s actually a floor below you, but this can also be an annoying camera yank for players who don’t like that. So, there you go, you can change that. Now I need them to fix the circle thing.
There may be more of these for some people, but they’re all pretty standard stuff about camera shake and head bobbing and what not. These ones are pretty Borderlands-specific, and they may make your experience better. Enjoy!
