Battlefield 6 has only been out a day and it’s already one of Steam’s biggest games ever

Must read

Battlefield 6 has rocketed into Steam’s chart of the biggest-ever games, becoming Steam’s fourteenth most-popular game of all time by concurrent user numbers on the PC platform within 24 hours of its launch.

Eclipsing even its own free-to-play open beta and Call of Duty’s peak numbers, Battlefield 6 is now EA’s most successful shooter ever after clocking up 747,440 concurrent players in a single day. And that’s only counting Steam players, of course.

It also has a higher concurrent peak than Apex Legends, Marvel Rivals, and Destiny 2.

Of course, we already knew that Battlefield 6 was dominating Steam as the top-selling game on the platform. One analyst has estimated it’s already made over $100m in pre-launch sales before it’s even out. And the shooter’s not even just garnering high numbers, but it’s getting high praise, too; at the time of writing, 78 percent of the 25,000+ user Steam reviews are positive.

The record comes despite players facing huge queues as servers reach maximum capacity and lead producer David Sirland revealing that the team was planning for launch day queues. In a post on social media, Sirland said the open beta – which had almost 250,000 players waiting in queues ahead of its launch – “helped gauge the interest”.

“Battlefield 6 delivers a thrilling multiplayer reset and a decent, if derivative single-player. But it still displays nagging doubts about what makes Battlefield special,” reads our Battlefield 6 review.
