Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) is making things personal with a colleague who defied her.
Rep. Cory Mills (R-Fla.), along with three other Republicans, joined all Democrats in striking down Mace’s effort to censure Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) over her response to the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The measure fell one short of passing last Wednesday — as Mace took aim at Omar, claiming she “mocked the cold-blooded assassination of an innocent American husband and father.”
Mills defended his stance shortly afterward, writing in a post on X that “We may not like or agree with what someone says, but that does not mean we should deny their [First Amendment] Right.” His response prompted Mace to say that Mills is stifling free speech, arguing that he chose to table the measure rather than debate it.
“Coming from a guy who turned off commenting on his social media, this is rich,” Mace continued. “…You also threatened me over text last night. Maybe some personal reflection is in order… Until then, spare us.”
Mace intensified her attacks even further on Monday, accusing Mills of “stolen valor” in several posts on X. Mills is an Army combat veteran and a Bronze Star recipient, according to his website.
“Beginning to think nothing Cory Mills says is true,” Mace wrote in one post, adding that he “fabricated his resume, and stole stories from men who either gave their life for their country and can’t speak now or can’t speak for themselves due to their injuries.”
In a separate post on her personal account, Mace said: “I have another technical question for Cory Mills. How does one complete the 91W Combat Medical Course a full 5 months before enlisting in the Army? How does that work?”
She also went on to say that Mills is now “‘blowing’ me up over text. He even sent a photo saying he was injured in a blast showing blood on his pants.”
“Cory Mills is highly regarded. And totally stolen valor,” she added.
Mills replied to one of Mace’s posts with a letter from his team leader.
The exchange comes as Mace had first directed jabs at Omar over her interview with the progressive news outlet Zeteo. In her remarks, Omar said that “it was really mortifying to hear the news” of Kirk’s death, and “all I could think about was his wife, his children.” She emphasized that the fatal shooting, which occurred earlier this month, was being weaponized by conservatives to attack the left.
“There are a lot of people who are out there talking about him just wanting to have a civil debate,” she said. “These people are full of s—, and it’s important for us to call them out while we feel anger and sadness.”
Mace and Omar sparred on social media, with the GOP lawmaker at one point baselessly claiming that her colleague is “an Enemy of the State.”
