After being diagnosed with COVID, actor and comedian Steve Martin cancelled two upcoming Virginia shows on his tour with his “Only Murders In The Building” co-star Martin Short. He announced the news via Instagram on Sept. 19. The shows were scheduled to take place at Virginia Beach’s The Dome and Richmond’s Allianz Amphitheater at Riverfront on Sept. 19 and 20, respectively.
Accompanied by a picture of a sad-looking dog wearing Mickey Mouse ears, Martin’s post read, “Dear Virginia Beach and Richmond. Sadly, I have come down with Covid. I can’t possibly do the shows that you deserve. So Marty and I must cancel tonight & tomorrow. But we will return under better circumstances.”
He followed up the post with a picture of his COVID test, showing positive results for the virus, but not for the flu. The caption jestingly read, “Hey! No flu!”
Martin’s website confirmed the cancellations soon thereafter, posting, “Unfortunately, Steve Martin has come down with COVID, and out of an abundance of caution, the shows will be canceled. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Refunds will be available to ticket buyers.”
Martin and Short’s tour is titled “Dukes of Funnytown” and features original bits from the two comedians, who have been frequent collaborators since they first shared the screen in the 1986 film, “Three Amigos!” The duo’s next stop on the tour is Hollywood, Fla., where they will perform Live at Seminole Hard Rock on Oct. 4. They have additional shows at cities across the U.S. scheduled through April 2026.
